Hemorrhoid Home Treatment: Eating Horse Chestnuts Will Work Wonders

There are many effective hemorrhoid treatments -- this is good news for the many people suffering from a hemorrhoid condition. Hemorrhoids occur when so much pressure is placed on your rectum or anus that tissues and veins burst and become swollen (it frequently happens to women during childbirth). Many times this pressure occurs when people have become constipated or have been sitting in one place for too long.

After a prolonged period the veins and tissues in a person’s anus swell and bulge. Some of the symptoms of hemorrhoids -- such as burning, itching, and bleeding -- can quickly become unbearable. Hemorrhoids are usually nothing to worry about -- they aren’t fatal -- but they are hard to ignore when they are causing such irritation and they don’t usually go away on their own.

One hemorrhoid treatment which has provided immediate relief for many people is eating horse chestnuts. Horse chestnuts work by keeping the blood flowing and by stopping the swelling of the tissues (which is what causes so much of the pain). One caution needs to be noted about horse chestnuts -- they should not be eaten by people who suffer from kidney or liver conditions.

Another popular hemorrhoid home treatment is to mix baptisia with lobelia extract in equal part along with zinc sulfate and water. After these ingredients have been mixed they can be applied topically -- not orally -- and will provide immediate relief from itching.

Another effective hemorrhoid treatment is something called thermotherapy. Thermotherapy stops itching and bleeding and must be applied at last two to four times a week.

Before trying any of these home treatments you should consult a doctor. Some people have suffered allergic reactions to horse chestnuts so they should be tested before trying it. If you feel you are suffering from severe hemorrhoids it is important to visit a doctor right away -- you may need surgery to heal your hemorrhoids. Surgery is a last resort but should be an option if your hemorrhoids are not healing or are getting worse.

Another hemorrhoid home treatment to consider is lifestyle changes. Eating a healthy, high fiber diet and drinking plenty of water has been proven to lessen and heal hemorrhoids. Exercise can also help stop hemorrhoids from flaring up -- this is probably because exercise gets the blood flowing which helps heal hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids can be a very painful condition and should not be ignored (not that most people are able to) because they may mimic symptoms of a more serious condition. If the hemorrhoid home treatments are not soothing the condition people should seek medical attention.

In the case of severe hemorrhoids a doctor may be able to perform surgery and get rid of the hemorrhoids permanently. Whatever option a patient decides to choose they should be made aware of the fact that many of the hemorrhoid home treatments are quite effective.
